Biography

Beomseok Nam is a professor at SungKyunKwan University (SKKU).

He received his undergraduate and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from Seoul National University in 1997 and 1999, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2007, where he was supervised by Professor Alan Sussman.

After his Ph.D. he worked as a faculty research associate at the University of Maryland, College Park and UMIACS. He then worked at Oracle in Redwood Shores, CA as a senior member of technical staff from 2007 to 2010. In 2010, he was appointed as an assistant professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology), where he spent most of his early career. In 2018, he joined the college of computing at SKKU.

His research interest includes storage systems, big data processing systems, database systems, distributed and parallel computing, and high performance computing.
